websites on the internet. Very helpful marketing tips.
February 2010 -
We had a representative from FLUKE Thermo Imaging to talk about thermo imaging equipment,
procedures, uses, and how it applies to the home inspection industry. Great guest with a lot of
helpful information.
March 2010 -
Round table discussion - Great questions and discussions on utilities being off for the inspection,
whether we should turn them on, or course of action regarding utilities. Discussed PEX plumbing
systems and the potential hazards with those systems. Discussed a variety of items we see in
houses when inspecting. Discussed scheduling methods. Briefly mentioned inspection lead
scams now circulating on the internet. Talked about having a NAHI Minnesota party or BBQ this
summer - all present agreed. Talked about the "Conference" in Nashville and Rich Miller buying
attendees ribs. Discussed the possibility of sharing a "test house" opportunity with MSHI.
April 2010
After taking care of some chapter business we opened discussion about the TEST HOUSE.
Discussions and comments about the roof, roof structure, modifications to the roof structure and
the access hatch from the garage is where it started. This house was a real test for inspection
with a wide variety of things wrong with virtually every system. Again "Thanks to MSHI" for this
opportunity. We also discussed inspection methods, procedures, and delivery of the information
and report to the client. Great meeting!
May 2010
Last meeting before summer. Greeted the new members. Great turnout! Our guest speaker gave
us an education on moisture testing. He had interesting photos, and conversation about what we
should be looking for with the many different types of siding. Describing what causes moisture
and what he sees when he does detect moisture in walls and ceilings. Very informative.
Off for the Summer
September 2010
Great turn out at the Downtowner Woodfire Grill for our first meeting of the fall...and a great
breakfast as well. We had Master Wood Foundations do a presentation about wood foundations.
They told us how they are constructed, explained what we should be looking for, and how to
address the defects. Some great information with a lot of questions and discussion. Also
discussed the upcoming 2010 National Education Conference in Nashville. Possibly traveling
there as a group.
October 2010
We had a very interesting and informative meeting with the President of NAHI national, Dave
Kolasari. He told us of the plans and directions of NAHI. Some of the new and improved benefits
of membership and incentives for belonging to the chapter. Questions and answers were great!
We are looking forward to many of the items that will benefit our chapter as well.
November 2010
Fantastic turnout for this meeting with professional speaker Mike Crow. He went through the
whole procedure of report writing; what works and what does not and why. He had great stories
and insight on the whole inspection procedure. I sure everone picked up some pointers.
December 2010
January 2011
February 2011
The guest this month was a Solar Panel specialist. They talked about the different types of solar
panels and what we should be looking for when we run across these systems.
March 2011
An attorney gave a question and answer session covering things we should be aware of when
performing our inspections.
April 2011
The April meeting had a great turnout. We help out annual meeting voted on many items
concerning the organization and held elections. Monique McClure-Hegge, Dave Taurinskas, and
Tom Astatt were re-elected for another term. Tom Astatt reported on our finances. Dave
Taurinskas reported on the NAHIMN website. There was a request for volunteers to assist in
giving free maintenance inspections to families of deployed military personnel. The response was
great! Our organization is now registered with the "Beyond the Yellow Ribbon" military support
group. We also have a website "Home Care Program" to inform those inquiring about the
maintenance inspections.
